With AB 1701 California told contractors that as a matter of law a direct contractor may be responsible for a subcontractor’s failure to properly pay wages or fringe benefits. A new right of action was created enabling lawsuits. New questions and pressures emerged requiring
disclosure of information between contractors and, perhaps, as a condition of getting work. New standards of compliance and due diligence are critical to avoid risk and ensure success. This session will help to provide a basic understanding of AB 1701’s requirements and steps contractors should consider in their business relationships to improve business relationships and minimize risks.
