ABC Northern California is commited to promoting safety within the construction industry by providing a source of safety expertise and information to members, and assisting in the development of safety programs in the interest of employee health and company profitability.

Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) Certification – What if your company could be 770% safer than the industry average? Established in 1989 and specifically designed by contractors for contractors, ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) is a service that helps you build and expand your safety program. With the exception of more advanced Diamond and Platinum levels, it is complimentary of ABC NorCal members. Program participants often see the following returns on their STEP investment: increased productivity with fewer on-the-job inquiries, greater OSHA compliance, competitive market advantage and lower worker’s compensation costs.

JUST GETTING STARTED WITH YOUR SAFETY TRAINING PROGRAM?

We created our FirstSTEP tool with the smaller contractor in mind. This road map gives you basic components to consider as you construct your safety program. We encourage you build the program around your company’s culture and incorporate your business practices. This tool is a guide designed to be modified and ehanced as you see fit.

HOW STEP WORKS?

Participating companies score their level of achievement for each component on a weighted point scale and document their incident rates (TRIR and EMR). Companies receive a recognition level of Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze or Participant based on this data.

QUALIFICATION & APPLICATION PROCESS
