Local companies eager to return to Paradise to provide training and work to their community
LIVERMORE, Calif., Dec. 20, 2018 — Yesterday, the Associated Builders and Contractors Northern California Chapter (ABC NorCal) attended a construction summit convened by the Butte County Office of Education and Assemblyman James Gallagher to discuss rebuilding efforts following the Camp Fire. ABC NorCal is eager to help the community of Paradise and the affected areas of Butte County rebuild.
“We were happy to hear from all attendees that the local community will continue to build its community absent a project labor agreement (PLA),” said Nicole Goehring, Community and Government Relations Director of ABC NorCal, “Our members, staff and instructors stand ready to help any way we can to provide
training and work opportunities within the community. Our goal is to keep local people working on local projects.”
The Office of Education and assemblyman stressed the importance of returning the workforce to the area and provide training to locals that will allow them to work where they live while they help rebuild their community.
To that end, existing training programs at Butte College, Butte County Office of Education and others will continue on their trajectory, and certification will be open to anyone interested in becoming a multi-craft core curriculum (MC3) instructor. “It is our hope that our instructors can train utilizing this curriculum as it has not been available to us in the past,” said Goehring.
A donation fund to benefit building contractors and their employees who have been impacted by the Camp Fire, including replacement of tools, supplies, equipment and training for the recovery process has been set up with the North Valley Community Foundation, and donations can be made through this link.

Representing more than 21,000 construction and industry-related firms nationwide, the Associated Builders and Contractors was founded in 1950 and today has 70 chapters. The ABC NorCal chapter started in 1976 and now represents 500 large and small companies across Northern California.
