Another State Senate Committee Ignores Compelling Testimony Is Senate Bill 825 greased for passage regardless of its manifest flaws? LIVERMORE, Calif., April 12, 2018—The following statement was issued by Michele Daugherty, President and CEO of the Associated Builders and Contractors Chapter of Northern California, following yesterday’s 4-1 passage of Senate Bill 825 by the Senate Labor & Industrial Relations Committee. “Our hope for the thousands of construction-industry small businesses and their employees, many of whom are veterans, women, minorities, and the formerly incarcerated looking to succeed at life on the outside, is that the full California Senate truly listens to the compelling testimony about the harm Senate Bill 825 will do if it becomes law. In July 2014, the DIR launched a new Public Works Contractor Registration Program (SB 854), so starting this year, contractors wishing to bid on public works will need to register online and submit a non-refundable $300 annual fee.

The ugly quickie elections shoe drops

Last week, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) issued a final ruling on the quickie elections rule. Unless a court or Congress blocks enforcement of the new rule, these changes will take effect on April 14, 2015 and have a significant impact on ABC NorCal members and other open shop companies.

CA's new sick leave law

Starting January 1, 2015, all employees (including part-time, per diem and temporary) who have worked at your company at least 30 days within a year and who have satisfied a 90-day "probationary" period are entitled to paid sick leave.

I got a reminder from our friends at SCM Safety earlier this week about Cal-OSHA record keeping logs and thought it was definitely blog worthy. Safety is of utmost importance to us all and this is a friendly reminder that Cal-OSHA requires that record keeping logs be posted by February 1, 2014 (ie. tomorrow).
